Yep, they still grow cotton in the south. Fields of it. On the way back from a field trip with my daughter, I pulled over and we both walked a little ways into the field. I let her pick some cotton. It astonished her that cotton balls actually grew on a plant and you could pick them. This led to a lively discussion about things that were made of cotton that lasted all the way home.
